It’s Pink-tober, Y’all!
This month, an awareness minded consumer can purchase almost anything in pink – from lint brushes and shoelaces to earbuds and Snuggies. Before I get into all the fun stuff, allow me to give you a brief history lesson as to when and how this pink craze all began.
According to Wikipedia. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month was founded in 1985 to promote breast cancer screening awareness and to heighten the fight against breast cancer. In 1991, the Susan G. Komen Foundation – which is known as the largest and most well-funded breast cancer organization – handed out pink ribbons to its participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors. Then in 1993, Estee Lauder Companies founded the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and designated a pink ribbon as its symbol – which is now internationally known – to call attention to the lack of research and funding for breast cancer.
Since then, businesses and municipalities have embraced this phenomenon by using their packaging as a means of showing support and advertising partnerships with breast cancer organizations. Typically, these packaging alterations involve a pink color scheme or the addition of a pink ribbon.
EPE Industries USA is a proud supporter of The Breast Cancer Awareness Month and an annual contributor to the BCRF (Breast Cancer Research Foundation) as they pursue research that will accelerate a cure and transform lives.
Here are some corporations that also are endorsing Breast Cancer Awareness Month – check it out!
Cascade Cart Solutions
Started the Pink Cart Program in 2010. Last year, over 100,000 pink carts were on the curb in America, with $5 of the cost of each purchase donated to the American and Canadian Cancer Society. Who would have thought that a “trash can” could be so cute – and awesome!
Danish Baker Kohberg
With help from Envision, created this very supportive packaging, in effort to help fight breast cancer. The fun bags house two rye buns – eyes over here, guys – with part of the profits to be donated to The Danish Cancer Society. Alas, a reason to eat 5 loaves of bread – Go grab a pair!
National Football League
The NFL has been supporting the cause since 2009. Their campaign, “A Crucial Catch”, is in partnership with the American Cancer Society. Since then, they have raised over $15 million. So if you haven’t already noticed the past couple of games, NFL will feature players, coaches, and referees wearing pink apparel, as wells as additional on-field and in-stadium branding. Go team!
